# Compatibility and power supply wattage

Part of the doc set: [PC Builder](https://phatdev.net/en/docs/tandoanh-buildpc.md)

> How the plugin checks sockets and estimates wattage.

## Compatibility check
- Compares the CPU socket with the motherboard (Intel / AMD) and warns immediately on a mismatch.
- Checks the RAM type the motherboard supports (for example DDR4).

## Power supply wattage estimate
- Once a CPU and VGA are chosen, the plugin estimates the wattage needed even before a power supply is picked.
- Once a power supply is chosen, the total block shows the load against the supply's capacity (for example 644W / 650W) and warns if the headroom is small.

## Note
The estimate uses typical power draw figures for each component; for overclocked builds or multiple graphics cards, choose a power supply with extra headroom.
