# Bills, recurring transactions and debts

Part of the doc set: [MoneyFlow](https://phatdev.net/en/docs/moneyflow.md)

> Bill reminders, paid cycles and overdue, recurring transactions that keep their original day, money lent and borrowed.

**Bills, recurring transactions and debts** are three tools that help a household not forget things that repeat or that involve other people. All three open from Account, under Công cụ (Tools).

## Bill reminders

Bill reminders are for amounts due every month, such as electricity, water, internet and rent. The add screen offers quick picks: electricity, water, internet, rent, insurance, phone, TV, school fees (in Vietnamese).

- **Reminder schedule.** Pick the due day of the month (1 to 31) and how many days ahead to remind (0 to 14, default 3). Day 31 in a shorter month falls back to the last day of that month.
- **Notification.** The app sends a "Hóa đơn sắp đến hạn" (bill due soon) notification at 9 AM, the number of days before the due date you chose. If that moment has already passed, it reminds at 9 AM on the next day still before the due date; it never schedules "in one minute", which would repeat the notification on every launch.
- **Paid cycle.** Tap "Đánh dấu đã trả" (mark as paid) when you pay. The bill stays paid through the due date of that cycle, then returns to unpaid when the next cycle begins.
- **Overdue.** A bill past its due date and unpaid shows "Quá hạn N ngày" (overdue N days) and moves to the top of the list. Paying an overdue bill settles only the missed period, not the next one in advance.
- **On the Overview.** The "Sắp đến hạn" (due soon) section lists unpaid bills due within the next 7 days and any that are already overdue.

Notifications need you to allow them the first time the app asks.

## Recurring transactions

Recurring transactions create transactions on the right day by themselves, for repeating amounts such as salary, rent and tuition.

- **Setup.** Choose the type (spending or income), amount, note, category, frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly), a start date and an optional end date.
- **Auto-created.** Each time you open the app, periods that have come due are turned into real transactions, tagged "auto" and "định kỳ" (recurring). If you have not opened the app for a while, it catches up on at most 12 periods at a time.
- **The original day is kept.** An item set on the 31st that passes through a shorter month lands on that month's last day, then returns to the 31st the month after, instead of drifting to the 28th.
- **Pause.** Swipe right to pause or resume. When you resume, the app skips the periods missed during the pause and does not back-fill them.
- **End date.** After the periods up to the end date have been created, the recurring item turns itself off.

The screen shows the average total of recurring amounts per month.

## Debts and loans

Record money you lent to someone or borrowed from someone, so you do not forget who owes whom.

- **Two kinds.** "Cho vay" (lent: others owe you) and "Đi vay" (borrowed: you owe others), each tied to a person's name.
- **Details.** An amount, a note and an optional repayment date. Each row shows "Còn N ngày" (N days left), "Đến hạn hôm nay" (due today) or "Quá hạn N ngày" (overdue N days), and changes colour when it is near or past due.
- **Settling.** Tap "Đánh dấu đã trả" (mark as paid) once both sides are square. A settled debt records the date it was settled.
- **Net balance.** The top of the screen says whether others still owe you or you still owe, with the total lent and total borrowed for debts not yet settled.

## Where the data lives

Bills, recurring items and debts are stored on your own device and do not sync between members; a transaction created by a recurring item is an ordinary transaction and syncs like any other. See [Family split and sync](https://phatdev.net/en/docs/moneyflow/chia-tien-dong-bo).
