# Installments, loans and pay-later wallets

Part of the doc set: [CreditMate](https://phatdev.net/en/docs/creditmate.md)

> Annuity, equal principal and flat-rate plans, effective annual rate, early payoff and pay-later wallets.

**Installments** is where CreditMate tracks every repayment obligation: card installments, consumer loans and pay-later wallets. The goal is to tell you how much you owe this month and next month, not just to list each item on its own.

## The "This month" and "Next month" summary

At the top of the Installments tab, a summary card combines three sources: card installments, loans and pay-later wallets. When only part of the data is known, the total is shown as "at least" to say the real figure may be higher. The app never fills in 0 for what it does not know.

## Card installments

Each installment shows the next period, the number of remaining periods and the amount. The app separates two states that are easy to confuse: a period that has appeared on a statement and a period that has been paid. A statement showing "04/12" means that period was billed; it does not prove you paid. Marking a period as paid is always a separate action by you.

## Consumer loans

Loans support three repayment methods:

- **Equal payments:** every period costs the same amount, covering principal and interest.
- **Equal principal:** the principal is split evenly and interest shrinks, so the payment falls over time.
- **Flat rate:** interest is calculated on the original principal for the whole term.

You can also declare a floating rate after a promotional period, enter a loan that is already partly repaid, and view a balance chart and a period-by-period schedule. Recording a payment goes through a draft first, like every other action.

For flat-rate loans the app computes the **effective annual rate (IRR)**. A flat 0.6% per month sounds low, but the effective annual rate is much higher because interest keeps being charged on the original principal even as it shrinks. This figure allows a fair comparison between loan offers.

## Early payoff versus continuing to pay

On the detail screen of a loan or card installment, the "Early payoff" card puts two options side by side:

- **Pay off now:** outstanding principal, plus accrued interest and any payoff fee.
- **Keep paying to the end:** the total of the remaining periods.

The difference between the two columns shows how much you would save by paying off early. This is an estimate based on the data you entered; the actual payoff fee is set by the bank.

## Pay-later wallets

A pay-later wallet is modeled on the monthly bill of services such as SPayLater: each period has a bill, with the options "Pay next period" and "Installments k of n". You can record a partial refund and set a due-date reminder.

When a bill is imported from a screenshot and it states that everything was paid, each installment is marked as paid up to the matching period. On the detail screen the status appears as paid k of n periods and m periods remaining. You can use "Unmark as paid" if you made a mistake.

## Limits and currency

A loan that sits on a card limit can be marked as using up that limit, so the available limit stays accurate. A pay-later wallet reads amounts in the wallet's own currency and is not forced into VND. All money and interest calculations use integers with explicit rounding rules.
